Salomon (Sam) van Deventer joined NV Müller & Co, of which Anton Kröller was the company director, in 1908. That was how he met Helene Kröller-Müller and they developed a close friendship. Helene saw him as a soul mate, 'the ideal adopted son' with whom she could talk about art. In 1956 he published this book about the Kröller-Müller couple and the evolution of the collection that forms the basis for the Kröller-Müller Museum.
